Strategic Business Services (Pty) Ltd trading as SBS Conferences & Exhibitions, was founded by Peter Aspinall in January 1987, has its head office in Durbanville, Cape Town, and is a B-BBEE level 4 accredited company.

SBS Conferences & Exhibitions develops and presents its own conferences and exhibitions and provides services to associates and trade bodies to develop and run events on a joint venture basis. Apart from offering a full range of professional conference organiser services for managing conferences and exhibitions – both live and online – SBS can provide finance and carry or share the financial risk of running an event.

Our core services include:

  • Providing upfront finance and undertaking or sharing the financial risk.
  • Total project management of conferences, exhibitions and webinars.
  • All administration and accounting functions including audited final accounts.
  • Assistance with research of topics and speakers.
  • Full abstract and paper management with a fully customisable management system.
  • Liaising with all speakers regarding papers, abstracts, travel and accommodation.
  • Handling all registrations, invoicing and collection of money.
  • Planning, design and distribution of all promotional materials, including an event website.
  • Organising pre and post conference tours, spouse and social programmes.
  • Structuring sponsorship packages and raising sponsorship money.
  • Structuring and management of exhibitions and selling spaces.
  • On-site event management from A-Z.

SBS Conferences & Exhibitions has run over 200 events around Southern Africa including:

  • Specialised seminars for groups ranging from 40 to 350 delegates.
  • National and international conferences with exhibitions for associations with 200 to 1 500 delegates and 20 to 100 exhibitors.
  • Government forums to assist with the forming of both green and white papers on pending new policies for central government.
  • Executive briefings and specialised workgroups.
  • Online webinars and hybrid events for 50 to 400 delegates.

PETER ASPINALL

Founder & Managing Director
Peter has a career spanning 18 years in IT, managing major retail system developments and over 30 years managing SBS Conferences & Exhibitions. He is a member and past Chairman of SAACI (South African Association for Conference Industries) and a fellow and past President of the CSSA (Computer Association South Africa).

CHRIS LAUBSCHER

Director & Project Manager
Chris is a qualified Professional Accountant with over 12 years of experience in the fields of finance, agriculture, property development and conferencing & events. Over the past 10 years he has combined his financial knowledge with project management skils to manage multi-faceted property developments and is now also applying this to event management.
Danielle

DANIELLE ASPINALL

Financial Manager
Danielle has a B.Com and MBA from the University of Cape Town with a successful career in auditing UCT followed by many years in the fields of financial auditing, strategic planning and financial management before joining SBS as the Financial Manager in 2001.

KIM KILPATRICK

Conference Coordinator & Systems Administrator
Kim has over 25 years of experience in the fields of hospitality, telecommunications, higher education, property development and event management with a key focus on administration, design, systems and data management.
Simon

SIMON VAN WYK

Technical Manager
Simon has spent 21 years in the IT industry in the roles of DBA, Software Engineer in C+, Delphi & Java, Lead Programmer and Project Manager. He now manages his own company, Arkis, and provides IT support and development for multiple organisations, including SBS where he heads up the technical management, software development and on-site event support and management.

DEMI COETZEE

Junior Conference Coordinator
Demi has a National Diploma from CPUT majoring in Project Management, General Management and Financial Management. She has not only sharpened her communication and customer service skills, but is now developing her project management skills on various projects within the property development and conference & events industry.
